In our previous article, we looked at how vaping can impact your oral health in comparison to smoking. Although it is undeniable that smoking is much worse for your oral health, there are still things to consider when vaping. Even though vaping is less harmful to your teeth than cigarettes, that’s no reason to skimp on your oral health routine. To make sure that you don’t see oral health issues while you vape, it’s important to remember these key points.

Make sure to brush your teeth before bed

We all know that it’s recommended that we brush at least twice a day – once in the morning and once in the evening. Still, it’s easy enough to answer the call of your comfy bed rather than diligently brushing your teeth before dropping into bed. However, it’s this point when it is probably most vital to brush your teeth.

In the evening, brushing your teeth helps to clean away all the germs and plaque you’ve gathered during the day. If you don’t brush your teeth, then the plaque can harden and calcify, and germs can lead to gum irritation and worse.

Don’t forget your tongue

Any vaper worth his Nic Salt will know about vapers tongue and why you would want to avoid it. Cleaning your tongue as part of your brushing routine is but one way you can help try to avoid it.

Simply brushing your tongue with your toothbrush whilst brushing your teeth, can help to clean any build-up of plaque there, and freshens your tongue in the meanwhile. If you ever notice that you have bad mouth odour, there’s a good chance it’s your tongue that needs a clean.

Consider mouthwash to help

Many see mouthwash as an optional extra that’s unnecessary when you already brush your teeth. But really mouthwash can help with oral health in general as it can clean the hard-to-brush areas in and around your gums. They also help bring balance back to your teeth, working almost like flossing.

Drink more water and eat more fruit & veg

Vapers often note that dry mouth can be a problem but it's easily rectified by simply drinking plenty of water. It’s also good for your oral health in general as it can help wash away many of the negative effects of sticky and acidic foods. Similarly, eating crunchy fruit and veg contains more healthy fibre and is good for your teeth as it promotes chewing.

Regular dentist trips help catch problems quick

Even for the most dutiful brushers and flossers, regular dentist trips are a must. For vapers, it’s certainly best to visit your dentist at least twice a year. Regular check-ups help to catch any potential issues like cavities, early, and provide cleaning for those tough areas you might have missed.

In conclusion

Whether you vape, smoke or neither, it’s best to keep on top of your oral health, and if you do vape or smoke, it’s even more important. While vaping isn’t as harmful to your oral health as smoking, there could still be some harm which is why it’s important to keep on top of it with a good routine and dentist check-ups.
